Join the Great British Spring Clean

Cotswold District Council is encouraging residents to get involved with the Great British Spring Clean campaign and pledge to pick at least one bag of litter.

This year’s campaign is running from 25 March to 10 April and we are calling on residents to join forces and pledge to pick a bag of litter from their local areas in order to clean up our environment and protect our wildlife.

Pledge to get involved today at keepbritaintidy.org/gbspringclean and support us on social media with the hashtags #GBSpringClean and #BigBagChallenge.

Cllr Andrew Doherty, Cabinet Member for the Environment, Waste and Recycling at Cotswold District Council, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting the Great British Spring Clean in its seventh year. The Council is holding litter picks for staff and residents to support the event and we’d love to see all our communities joining in. We can all play a role in keeping the Cotswolds tidy.

“The pandemic has increased our appreciation for the physical and mental benefits of being outdoors, and the value of shared spaces in our communities. Getting involved in the Great British Spring Clean is another great opportunity to get outside in the fresh air, whilst helping to reduce the amount of litter in the Cotswolds.

“Thank you to those who have already signed up and pledged to pick one bag of litter, and of course to those ‘litter heroes’ in our local communities who volunteer their time to collect litter all year round to help keep the Cotswolds tidy.”

As part of the Great British Spring Clean, we have teamed up with Clean and Green Cotswolds to hold our very own litter picks for staff and residents to get involved in.

The first litter picking event is being held in Cirencester on Friday 25 March at 3 pm. Anyone wanting to attend can email ers@cotswold.gov.uk to sign up. The litter pick will begin from the Council Offices in Trinity Road. Keep an eye on our social channels for more information about the upcoming litter picks in the district.

Cotswold residents who do not have space in their black bin to dispose of collected litter can call us on 01285 623123 or email: customer.services@cotswold.gov.uk to request litter stickers. Stickers can be applied to bags of litter which can be left beside your refuse bin on normal collection days ready for crews to collect.

The Council will collect bags from larger community litter picks. Collection of the bags must be arranged in advance.
