Cotswold District Council’s waste management partner Ubico has carried out three days of intense cleaning along the Cirencester ring road, as part of the council's promise to ramp up street and road cleansing activities across the district.
Through the Cotswold Clean and Green Initiative, launched last year, additional funding has been allocated to street and road cleansing services in order to better maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the district.
Cllr Andrew Doherty Cabinet Member for the Environment at Cotswold District Council said: “We are incredibly fortunate to be situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it is our collective responsibility to do all that we can to maintain the landscape and nature in the Cotswolds.
“We launched the Cotswold Clean and Green Initiative to encourage everyone to play their part in keeping the district this way. Through this project, we set aside additional funding for maintenance and as a result, we have been able to go over and above our usual cleaning responsibilities, clearing almost 2 tonnes of litter by hand and sweeping over 45 tonnes of waste, to ensure safety and cleanliness along our roadways.”
The additional street cleansing activities were carried out by Ubico crews along the Cirencester ring road over three days. The operation involved utilising the mechanical sweeper along the road as well as members of the Ubico crew litter picking on foot along the grass verges, on the perimeter of the ring road.
Cllr Doherty continued: “I am very grateful for the hard work of the Ubico crew. Their continued efforts, combined with those of our residents, make a big difference in our efforts to keep the Cotswolds a beautiful place to live, work and visit.”
On behalf of Cotswold District Council, Ubico will continue with its scheduled cleansing exercises over the coming months.
